Well, here lies my first attempt to time-lapse a sunrise. I honestly have no clue why there’s so much wobble as the tripod was stock still. Apparently some unknown wind of some sort. Anyway, a reasonable first shot, I suppose.

loved the sunrise even with wobble 🙂
The wobble can be caused by using an image stabilization lens on a tripod without turning the image stabilization off. Apparently the IS lens is looking for and correcting a problem when it doesn’t exist.
You’ve got it exactly right. I even recall as I was standing there for an hour looking at that setting and wondering… “What’s THAT doing to the pictures…?” Now I know. 🙂 Thanks much!
Hey, Rob. You should join Ugly Hedgehog (http://www.uglyhedgehog.com), a message board for photographers. I’ve been a member for about six months and learned more there than in all the photography books I have in my library!
I will do that. Thanks, Russell.
If not IS then wind. Hopefully natural 🙂
Nice first attempt.
Thanks for posting this awesome photo and video of a sun set it was just what I needed to see tonight I love sun sets…
I think it’s a great time lapse. I could never photo a sunrise…can’t make myself get out of bed that early, so thanks for providing this. I don’t think I’ve seen a sunrise in years 🙂
Wonderful job, Rob! It’s fantastic. Loved it totally. 🙂 (I am going to share it on FB!)
looks like the beginning of a music video -,o
Rob, definitely the lens IS has caused your issue here. I have done a few of these now and learned it the hard way. Great work more please.
Bravo! This is great.
Glad to hear of the IS issue. I was taking some long exposure night shots on the beach last month and had a similar wobble issue on a night with NO wind at all. Bet it was the same thing.
Awesome! Where did you take these from exactly?
The Carmel was one from the top of West Park Hill. I froze my butt off for an hour and a half for that 40 seconds of video!
Yeah, I’d have waited until, oh June or so to do a sunrise timelapse. 🙂
Even with the IS problems, I still like this. I’ve never tried it & want to learn how. BTW, I have family in Carmel (and Lafayette).
